Apple's latest operating system has arrived.
macOS Monterey is the 18th and most current software update, released on 25th October. Compatible with most Apple models, the new features included make life just that tiny bit easier. Update yours and see for yourself...
One of the focal points of the latest software update is the new feature SharePlay. This isn't actually available just yet, it's coming late Autumn, but seems to be the favourite already. SharePlay allows you be on FaceTime at the same time as you watch TV shows, movies, listen to music, etc. You can even share your screen!
Send FaceTime links to invite whoever you'd like to call, even if they're using Windows or Android. With synced playback and controls, no one will be left behind, and the volume automatically adjusts so you can talk whilst watching. As always with Apple, the very best features are considered and used, such as spatial audio and mic modes, so you can hear everyone loud and clear. And, of course, it's all end to en encrypted.
Another newer feature that has been introduced is Focus. You can choose your Focus depending on which notifications you want to allow. For example, if you're in the zone and want to get plenty of work done, switch to 'Do Not Disturb'. You can create your own Focus and filter the options to suit you best. Plus, if you enable on one device it's automatically set across all devices.
Let's talk about Safari. In the new update, the browser design has been completely reimagined. The compact tab bar option takes up less space on your page, and your page takes on the colour of the website you're on, allowing it to extend to the edge of the window. This is a nice little touch, I personally think it makes a lovely difference. Tab Groups have also been created to allow sync across your Apple devices, so you can pick back up whenever and wherever you want.
The most important thing with using any device is knowing that your privacy is being protected. macOS Monterey will put you at ease, as it provides greater visibility into how and when apps access your mic. You'll find this in the Control Centre, and you'll also see the new indicator show up on your screen whenever an app is accessing your microphone.
iCloud has always kept your information safe, up to date and accessible across all of your devices. Now, the new iCloud+ takes that experience a step further. An all new subscription that will soon replace today's storage plans, with new features including iCloud Private Relay and Hide My Email.
iCloud Private Relay is a service that lets you connect to virtually any network and browse with Safari in an even more secure way. It ensures that traffic leaving your device is encrypted and uses two separate internet relays, so no one can use your IP address, location and browsing activity to create a detailed profile about you.
