iPad Scheme

Queen’s Park C.E/URC Primary School serves a diverse community, with around 40% of pupils eligible for free school meals and a growing number of children who speak English as an additional language (EAL). The school also supports pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), with 11% identified as having SEND and 4% holding an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

The school was judged Good by Ofsted in January 2023 and Outstanding as a Church School in its SIAMS inspection in 2018. It's Christian vision, “For with God everything is possible,” underpins decision-making and supports a strong commitment to inclusion, collaboration, and research-informed practice.

The decision to introduce iPad was driven by a desire to make learning more relevant to pupils’ lives and future careers. The school wanted children to become confident and capable users of technology, rather than passive consumers.

iPad also support flexible and accessible teaching, allowing lessons to be easily adapted and pupils to work at an appropriate pace. They offer different ways for children to show their learning, helping to build confidence, support creativity, and ensure pupils with additional needs can fully participate.

"MCC Digital provided  training sessions that helped our staff use iPads effectively in lessons and make the most of accessibility features to support all learners."

At Queen's Park, iPad has significantly strengthened inclusive practice. "Teachers can record their own voices reading texts, helping pupils who find reading difficult and offering reassurance through a familiar voice." Tasks can be easily adapted by reducing written demands, adding visual support, or allowing responses through audio recordings. This flexibility ensures all pupils can access learning and work towards shared objectives.

iPad has increased pupil engagement, independence, and participation, particularly for pupils with SEND, by allowing tasks to be easily adapted and supporting independent working.

In English, pupils can record and rehearse ideas before writing, helping them focus on content and build confidence, which has improved outcomes. In guided reading, digital texts on Seesaw make learning more interactive through highlighting and online responses.

In computing, regular access to devices has removed previous barriers, enabling skills to be taught and practised more consistently.

MCC Digital has played a key role throughout the school’s iPad journey. Support included a comprehensive training package, strategic planning for rollout, and ongoing technical guidance. This partnership has helped staff feel confident and ensured the implementation was sustainable and aligned with curriculum goals. Their responsiveness and curriculum-focused support have been particularly valued.
